PRESIDENT’S REPORT – 2013/2014.
entlemen
After a hectic 2013 and 150th College celebrations, I am happy to
table the following report on the MCOBA for the past year.
I am extremely privileged to have had the College 150th celebrations
fall on my watch as president. I hope that I have done the Association proud, in the many duties that were required to be carried out
last year to celebrate our great school’s monumental milestone. It
was important that we as Old Boys were well represented through
out the year and I certainly felt that our executive committee team
did what was required for the year to be a successful one.
In light of the very busy 2013 that we as an exec experienced, I would
like to take this opportunity to thank the entire exec for their commitment and support through out the year. Without the team in place,
we would not have produced what we did for the Association in the
150th year. There were many small projects that had to be handled
and I cannot recall a time when there was no-ne who put their hand up to take charge and get stuck in.
To you all, my heartfelt College thanks on behalf of all our Old Boys and the school.
At the head of the team are three ladies who scrummed their way through 2013, chasing, arranging,
phoning, panicking, sorting out all sorts of stuff for the association. Without the 3 of you, we would not
have made it through the year. You are the cogs that make this association tick along. It is always going
to be very difficult to put into words what you three have done but I would like us all to say a big thank
you to Charmaine Hardie, Debbie Craig and Linda Laubscher, by simply giving them a good round of applause and you can all give them a hug afterwards. I know these ladies don’t work entirely for the money,
but mostly for what the College Brotherhood stands for and what it instills in us as Old Boys. They love
their jobs, I promise. And we do pay them a little on the side.
Without going into too much detail, I would like to highlight some items from the 150th calendar:
1.
The Old Boy participation in the March through the streets of PMB. This was well attended by young
and old and we as an Old Boy group were certainly very much part of the procession.
2.
The opening of the world class College Museum. Matthew Marwick and the Archives committee
certainly have put us on the map with this masterpiece.
3.
The unveiling of “Jimeloyo” the statue in the Forder Oval.
4.
The 150th Birthday ball. This was a great way to celebrate the Birthday of College. Plenty of fun and
even a dip in the statue pond by some avid old boys in the wee hours of the morning.
5.
The annual Vets Luncheon. True inspiration is gathered here, and I sincerely hope that we all get to
enjoy at least one of these luncheons in our time.
