The way Samson dies in the end resembles a self-sacrifice done in order to accept his fate. Many claim that his death on the pillars falling down on him, or as Regina mentioned in the song as “columns”, was an act of suicide (Martin, 2012). Taking one’s life is also one of the reasons why the Bible might not have mentioned Samson’s act of chivalry in terms of his love for Delilah, and vise versa. If ironically the story had ended up happily, it would not have made it one for the history books. Regina emphasizes this connection to the fact that modern day love stories also have their share of darkness and misfortunes.
