The Engineering department is a big part
of McDermott with about 2,000 engineers
and technical staff working on projects
around the world. “The engineering we do is
collaborative in the extreme. There is almost
no project we do today that involves only
one engineering center. What we do is take
the skill set of our best people wherever
they are in the world and use that skill set
to deliver a project to the client which is as
good as it can be,” Khan said.
As we move into the 21st Century, the
energy industry needs to embrace digital
technologies which are already available in
other industries like aerospace, medical,
retail and manufacturing. “We are moving
towards digitizing everything we do,” Khan
said. The energy industry like many others is
moving to digitalization with the increasing
use of the industrial internet of things (IIOT).
“We are seeing the increasing use of data to
analyze and improve performance of what
not only we do, but what we deliver. This
trend will only accelerate over the next few
years,” Khan said.
