If you stop into the Holiday stores in Cologne or Waverly, there’ s a good chance you’ ll be greeted by someone who knows your name, remembers your usual order, or simply makes your morning a little brighter. That’ s not an accident— it’ s the culture Store Manager Missie has built over the years, one shift, one customer, and one small moment at a time.
Missie has managed both stores long enough to see them grow, change, and settle into their own rhythms. Waverly moves fast—“ constant move, move, move,” she says— while Cologne is picking up pace as more regulars come through the door. But no matter the location, the goal is the same: make every customer feel important.
“ This is why I’ m here.”
One moment still stands out for Missie years later. A young boy came in with his mom and bought a donut. As they left, Missie told him,“ Enjoy your breakfast.” A simple, everyday kindness.
A couple hours later, the boy returned— with flowers.
“ He was maybe six or seven,” Missie remembers.“ It made my day. That’ s when I thought, this is why I’ m here. To make a difference in someone’ s morning.”

It’ s the kind of story that doesn’ t show up on a sales report, but it’ s the heartbeat of a small‐town store.
Building a team that shows up
Missie is proudest of her team’ s dedication— the way they support each other, keep the store clean and stocked, and greet customers with genuine friendliness. She built the Waverly team from the ground up when Mid‐County took over, and while staff has changed over the
years, the culture has stayed strong. She laughs about the“ chaos” of a busy day behind the counter, but she loves the challenge.“ Some days are slower than others,” she says,“ but I like the pace. I like the people.”
What customers appreciate most
According to Missie, customers notice the little things:
• Being greeted when they walk in
• A clean, organized store
• Shelves that stay stocked
• Staff who try to help, even when the answer isn’ t simple
And in both Cologne and Waverly, many customers choose Holiday even though they have other options.“ They can go down the road either way,” Missie says.“ But they choose us. I love that.”
Looking ahead
Missie is excited about the return of Customer Appreciation Days at both stores— something she believes will mean a lot to regulars and occasional visitors alike.“ It will be amazing,” she says.“ Just to show we appreciate them.”
