Originally it was called " Samhain " which means " end of summer " by which , the pagan ancestors considered that during the night of October 31 the spirits of the dead returned to visit the world of the living . However , today it is mostly a fun tradition that is about terror . Today , Halloween is a date in which the children dress up with a costume and knock on the doors to ask for candies . The children regularly say “ Trick or treat ”, with this they mean that if they don ’ t get candies , they will play a prank on the adult .
