Officer Ginarro New was killed in a car crash when his patrol vehicle was struck by a speeding driver who ran a red light. The impact caused his vehicle to overturn and hit a brick wall. He later died at the hospital. Officer New had served with the Phoenix Police Department for two years and is survived by his wife, mother, brother, and grandmother. |
Police Officer David Glasser died from gunshot wounds sustained while responding to a burglary in progress. The suspect, the homeowner’ s son, opened fire on officers as they arrived, striking Officer Glasser. Officers returned fire and killed the suspect. Officer Glasser was taken to a hospital but died the following day from his injuries. He is survived by his wife and two children. |
Police Officer Daryl Raetz was fatally struck by an SUV while processing a DUI arrest near 51st Avenue and Cambridge Drive around 3:30 a. m. He was taken to St. Joseph ' s Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Officer Raetz was a veteran of the Iraq war and had served with the Phoenix Police Department for six years. He is survived by his wife, child, parents, and brother. |
Officer Travis Murphy was fatally shot while searching for a suspect linked to an earlier shooting. He was shot multiple times during the search and later died at the hospital. Officer Murphy had served with the Phoenix Police Department for four and a half years. He is survived by his wife, 2-year-old daughter, 2-week-old son, mother, step-father, and step-brother. |

Officer David Uribe was fatally shot in the head and neck while approaching a vehicle during a traffic stop near West Cactus Road. Officer Uribe had served with the Phoenix Police Department for 22 years. He is survived by his wife, five children, two step-children, five grandchildren, parents, stepfather, and siblings. One of his sons also serves as an officer with the Phoenix Police Department. |
Officer Schultz drowned while searching a North Phoenix canal for evidence in a murder case. He became trapped in a canal gate on May 10, 2004, and was underwater for up to 10 minutes. He passed away two days later after being removed from life support. Officer Schultz was survived by his wife and mother. |
Sergeant David Kieffer died on May 21st, 1997, from injuries he had sustained on May 7th, 1997, when his patrol car was struck by a drunk driver at N. 16th Street and E. McDowell Road. Sergeant Kieffer had served with the Phoenix Police Department for 20 years. He is survived by his wife and four children. |
Officer Briggs, a motorcycle officer, was killed while in pursuit of a speeding motorist. Officer Briggs swerved to avoid a motorist and struck a concrete median and tree. He had recently been chosen to be a Recruit Training Officer for the Phoenix Police Training Academy. Officer Briggs had been with the agency for seven years and is survived by his parents and two siblings. |
