National Children’s Dental Health Month 2019 Community Events Sixth District Orthodontic assistant Barbara Walker and Dr. Albert Stush, Jr. Central Susquehanna Valley Dr. Albert Stush, Jr. and his staff visited Meadowbrook School to speak to children ranging from Pre-K through fifth grade. They showed dental videos and played games with the children. They taught them the importance of flossing using egg crates as teeth. The students put Play-Doh in between the pretend teeth and learned how to floss in between. Dr. Stush and staff played “Speak Out” with older children. They had to guess what each other was saying with the lip retractors in. “We had lots of laughs. We handed out tooth brushes and floss to all the students, and other goodies as well. We spoke to 225 children in all,” said Barbara Walker, orthodontic assistant. “Thank you to the PDA for promoting NCDHM. We appreciate your efforts in promoting healthy smiles for a life time.” Tenth District Dr. Stephanie Kobil and her staff in Butler worked with the Butler County Humane Society to promote proper dental hygiene for both children and pets. This combination was both fun and educational for their patients. For the entire month of February, they collected donations and matched any monetary donations collected for the humane society. In addition, they had pictures of different animals and their teeth and jaws placed all along the hallway of the office. Dr. Kobil even did a demonstration of cleaning a dog’s teeth. Since the last week in February was Dr. Seuss week, Dr. Kobil read Dr. Seuss’ “The Tooth Book” during her visit to a local Butler elementary school (Northwest Elementary School). Dr. Stephanie Kobil and her staff collected donations throughout February. Thank You for Volunteering PDA would like to thank our member dentists for the continued success of the promotion of NCDHM. From promoting awareness to children and families in their local communities to sponsoring events and activities, the efforts of our members are valuable and appreciated. A special thank you goes to PDA’s statewide NCDHM Chair, Dr. Samer Mansour for his continued support and enthusiasm for endorsing NCDHM. 20 MAY/JU NE 2019 | P EN N S YLVA N IA D EN TA L J O UR N A L
