Celebrating our Junior Tennis members
The Charbonneau Sports Center is growing into a very diverse group of members and we are especially proud of our newly formed Junior Tennis Membership . We have an outstanding group of high school players who utilize their membership by practicing with other members , hitting with the ball machine and / or taking lessons from our pro Donna Roisom . We have grandkids of resident members , kids of members and even individual junior members . One thing is for sure , these are not ordinary teens — they are exceptionally motivated teens that have learned life skills through tennis . Meet a few of our junior members that make Charby proud :
Nolan Gardner is a junior and plays varsity singles for Sherwood High School . He has been taking tennis lessons since fifth grade and started because both of his sisters and the rest of his family ( including his Charbonneau grandparents ) have enjoyed playing tennis throughout their lives . Nolan plays because it is a great way to stay in shape , but , most of all , he enjoys being able to play with friends and family .
“ Tennis has taught me great perseverance skills ,” he said . “ It has required me to not give up even if I ’ m down a set . Tennis is a game of momentum and the score can change super quickly .”
Hadley Bierma is a senior at Canby High School and for the past two years she has played No . 1 singles . This year she earned the honor of being one of the captains for the high school team . Hadley started playing tennis after watching her sister play when she was in high school . She loves to play tennis , not only for the social aspect of the sport , but also because the more time and effort you spend practicing the better you become .
“ I have learned a lot from tennis , but I think some of the most important skills have been determination and resilience ,” she said . “ I remember my first year playing tennis as a freshman . I was so scared to be trying something new that I had never done before , but as I watched the older girls on varsity play I became so inspired and determined to improve . Ever since that year it was that initial sense of determination that drove me to improve my skills and quickly developed my growing love for tennis . As for resilience , my former coach Dave Brown constantly pushed me to play at levels I did not think I was ready for . In doing this I may have lost some matches and been hard on myself , but this taught me how to push past a loss and continue to strive to get better .”
After graduation Hadley will be attending college to study architecture and hopes to join an intramural team to continue her tennis play .
Ruby Jacklich is a freshman at Wilsonville High School and plays doubles on the JV team . She has been playing since 2023 , and started by taking lessons at the Charbonneau Tennis Club . Ruby plays tennis because for her it ’ s a lot less stressful than other sports . Her favorite

part of tennis is how it ’ s played , from the court to the use of a racket . She would love to play tennis in college , and always strives to preform her best . Ruby says , “ Tennis has taught me patience and determination in sports and I think that what I learned has also impacted the way I see other aspects of my life .”
Sujan Shadrak is a junior at Wilsonville High School and he plays varsity doubles . He started playing four years ago and enjoys the physical activity and the game overall , but his favorite part is serving . Sujan would love to play tennis in college and says ,
