SpringRidge hosts “ Walk to Remember ” on May 21
Pat Moore and Sharin Meier share a special bond besides being neighbors at SpringRidge at Charbonneau , an active retirement community . Both lost their spouses to Alzheimer ’ s disease , the most common cause of dementia .
” Dan was a retired judge with such a wonderful mind ,” said Pat . “ Seeing him decline was such a painful experience .” She appreciates the love and support from friends and neighbors at SpringRidge , and credits Sharin with being a role model for caring for a spouse with Alzheimer ’ s disease .
” She was always very patient and kind ,” explained Pat . “ I learned so much by watching how she cared for Dave .”
For Sharin , paying it forward is especially meaningful . She was encouraged by fellow SpringRidge residents who graciously shared books and helpful resources as she navigated being a caregiver . She is touched that she can help others impacted by the disease .
In honor of their loved ones , both ladies are joining their SpringRidge neighbors as well as the Wilsonville community to participate in the 10th annual Walk to Remember & BBQ at 10 a . m . May 21 . The scenic twomile loop through Charbonneau ’ s picturesque neighborhood will raise money for the Alzheimer ’ s Association . Thanks to the generosity of SpringRidge staff , families and the external community , over $ 35,000 has

been raised for Alzheimer ’ s research . ” Just the mention of Alzheimer ’ s brings up a lot of emotion for me ,” said Sharin . “ Not only was Dave impacted by it , but so were my mother and mother-in-law . This event is a great way to pay tribute to their lives while supporting others and bringing attention to the disease .”
She ’ ll be participating with a friend , a gesture that Sharin says is often overlooked .” I don ’ t think people understand the power of simply showing up for a caregiver ,” she added .” It would be great if the caregivers in this year ’ s Walk could have the support of friends . It truly goes a long way .”
Though Pat isn ’ t walking , she ’ s signed up to volunteer , helping to register participants .
” This is such a wonderful cause , and much more research is needed ,” she said . “ I volunteer to play music to residents in the memory care community in SpringRidge Court , so I continue to see firsthand how much this disease robs you of everything . I ’ m proud to be part of a community raising funds to find a cure .”
The Walk to Remember includes a raffle featuring donations from local businesses , a delicious BBQ lunch and a live performance by Jim Schroeder . Individual , family or team registrations are available for $ 5 per person . Registration forms are available at SpringRidge at Charbonneau , SpringRidge Court or the Charbonneau Clubhouse and are due by May 19th .
The SpringRidge at Charbonneau campus offers a comprehensive menu of lifestyle options , including CARFaccredited assisted living and memory care services in SpringRidge Court .
