The hypocrisy among the drug war establishment is beyond
flagrant, and it is crucial to understand that the long-estab-
lished web of deception perpetrated over the past century has
been greatly aided and abetted by the mainstream media
establishment. They have been the messengers of misinfor-
mation, and it is they who have continued to give legs to the
marijuana as a gateway drug myth. Back in 2013, the late
Toronto mayor Rob Ford, a pro drug war advocate, after deny-
ing allegations of drug use finally admitted to smoking rock
cocaine. His excuse was that he was driven to do it while he
was “probably in one of his drunken stupors.” A huge news
story at the time, Ford’s shocking confession still did nothing
to inspire mainstream news outlets to go on media rampage
declaring alcohol a gateway drug to crack addiction. And it is
this very blatant and specific form of media bias that contin-
ues to fuel the fires of misinformation.
