Awesome Arts en folie program Awesome Arts is a community engaged arts program that allows participants of all ages to explore issues important to their community through the arts. Held in partnership with community organizations, Awesome Arts offers an exciting series of workshops for different age groups that culminate in a public celebration. • • • • • • • • Sandy Hill In 2019, MASC offered our 9th Awesome Arts en folie program in partnership with six Lowertown community organizations: Lowertown Community Resource Centre, Patro d’Ottawa, Centre de services Guigues, Ottawa Community Housing, Options Bytown and York St. Public School. This program was the third and final year of MASC’s Ontario Trillium Foundation Grow Grant and we are pleased to have increased the: number of participants and community organizations reach into marginalized communities understanding and appreciation for the arts as an effective tool for community engagement community partners’ capacity and interest in offering arts activities In the Fall of 2019, MASC partnered for the 5th time with the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre (SHCHC) to offer the Awesome Arts program. From September to November, 200 residents ranging in age from 5 - 95 created two murals, an original song and music video, a drama production, a storytelling production, a musical peformance and an animation video. Creations were shared on November 15 at a standing-room only Festival! Working in partnership with SHCHC, Viscount Alexander PS, Ottawa Community Housing, Christie Lake Kids and 11 professional artists, we are thrilled with the results. MASC looks forward to continuing this rich partnership with the Sandy Hill community. Over the last nine years, the Awesome Arts program has offered: Over $500,000 in funded arts activities 1225 workshops to more than 2000 participants 275 performances at 9 Festivals and community events attended by over 5000 Together with professional artists, Lowertown residents have created: 82 videos (available on the MASC Awesome Arts Youtube channel) 15 murals 7 pieces of public art While MASC will be working with new neighbourhoods to develop Awesome Arts programs in other areas of the city, we look forward to working with our Lowertown partners who continue to be interested in offering arts programming in this richly diverse bilingual community.                • • Lowertown
