"Usually in everyday life when you dance people look at you weird. Here when you dance people join you.” (Participant) "The festival was great! The organizers managed to put the participants at ease. The activities were varied and offered challenges for beginners as well as more advanced dancers. The choreographers were so positive and encouraging." (Teacher) "For me, the festival is a great gathering, it motivates me to come back every year, it allows me to work with the emerging Franco- Ontarian kids." (Choreographer) The Festival de danse en milieu scolaire (FDMS) invites Grade 9 to 12 students from across Ontario for 3 days of dance workshops, performances and exchanges in complete French environment. This year, for the first time, the FDMS is hitting the road and heading to Toronto to hold its 6th edition at École secondaire catholique Saint-Frère-André and École secondaire Toronto Ouest from March 26th to 28th 2020! Our two key partners in the creation and organization of the festival The School of Dance and the Centre de Danse Contemporaine (ODD), will be with us in Toronto and new partners will also join the festival. Working with francophone professional dance schools in the region allows us to offer students the experience of a credible dance studio and gives us access to professionals in the field; choreographers, dancers and artistic directors. These are important francophone models who will inspire our young participants to pursue their passion in French. Once again this year, various dance classes will be offered to students, as well as dazzling performances exploring different types of dances performed by Francophone artists from diverse cultures. Toronto certainly has experiences rich in culture and movement to offer. The registration period will begin in December, follow us on social media for updates: @FDMS.MASC The highlight of the festival is on the last evening where the students take the stage for everyone to see! A magnificent show!! Students work with choreographers and professional musicians throughout the festival to create a choreography, accompanied by a live soundtrack designed specifically for the performance. Parents and friends are welcome to join us in celebrating this art form in all its splendor. In partnership with the Centre d’excellence artistique de l’Ontario, MASC is also welcoming French as a Second Language (FSL) students to the festival for the first time. Enriching experiences purely in French helps understand the importance and extent of the French culture in Ontario and develops a sense of pride and belonging. We wish to give these students an opportunity to explore their passion in a French environment, outside their school. Festival de danse en milieu scolaire 3 10
