inspired by molas,
the traditional
handmade textiles of
the Kuna women of
Panama, which use a
reverse appliqué
technique. Using superimposed and cut
pieces of paper, students will create a work
of art that reveals different colours and
shapes based on the layers of paper exposed
by the cut. The largest pattern is typically
cut from the top layer, and progressively
smaller patterns from each subsequent layer,
thus revealing the colours beneath in
successive layers. The more layers of colour,
the more difficult the project.
Materials: $1.15 + HST per student.

Village Square Using watercolour
and collage techniques, each student
will create their own village
consisting of a central square
surrounded by houses and trees.
The square is divided into squares
forming a patchwork, all
different, reminding us of
Canadian diversity. It is with the shape of
trees and houses, the patterns of squares,
the choice of fabrics and paper, that the
work becomes unique, personal and
individual. Materials: $3.25 + HST per student
