We’re way past the days of believing what we see in ads. Whether we open up a magazine to luscious and shiny hair, or we are driving down the expressway and see billboards with a big blue eyes and dark lashes staring back at us. We know makeup commercials and advertisements are not what they seem, but why do they still get to us?
Canadian YouTube comedian Lilly Singh, or “Superwoman” to her fans, tears apart the makeup industry’s façade of what their products actually constitute in her video “Inner Beauty Makeup Tutorial”. Even through her hilarious persona, she speaks the truth and wants to target her audience in focusing past the surface of just appearances. The YouTube community is able to reach millions of viewers across the globe, with different categories such as health, beauty, comedy and lifestyle amongst many others. Lilly pokes fun at the “beauty gurus”, by saying she is “going to do something that has never been done before on YouTube”…which technically, isn’t a lie. Here is what she had to say!
