MARS ONE ASSIGNMENT VOL 1 | Page 11

Obstacles:

Where will the water come from?

Where will oxygen come from during dust storms and at night? ( when there is little solar energy available)

Oxygen for emergency’s?

Oxygen for when the people have first arrived?

Possible Solutions:

Water could be extracted from the soil on Mars. This is possible due to the belief that Mars once had water and now the water is in the soil. The water is believed to have disappeared from the surface of Mars due to the fact that its gravitational strength was not strong enough to hold a thick enough atmosphere. For nights and dust storms on Mars, oxygen be produced and stored ahead of time. They will have to over produce oxygen so that when emergencies happen when oxygen is need then that oxygen can be used.

When the astronauts land they will have to have brought a fair amount of oxygen with them to survive at least 2 weeks.
