Farewell Mr Docherty! By Chloe Glasby, Julia Bartling and Isla Anderson, S3

After 7 years of working at Marr, Mr. Docherty is leaving to start a new chapter of his life. He will be working at the council helping with the educational aspect of it. We asked a series of questions about his time at Marr and what he hopes to see in the future.
How do you think Marr has improved since you started being head?
I think Marr has changed a lot since I became head, an example of this is pupils have a bigger sense of belonging to the school and have lots of opportunities to be involved with the school. I think the school has become a nice and welcoming place. For example, the staff try to encourage and support the students to produce amazing work and help their skills to be the best, all together to help make a positive difference in all their lives. Staff work really hard to ensure Marr is at the heart of the community having built up positive partnerships with parents.
What ' s your favourite memory of being at Marr?
There are so many fantastic things in my time at Marr, school events, concerts, introducing the first-year welcome march from old to new piper, rugby awards. Mainly the pupils make it a social place.
What inspired you to become a head teacher?
I was a deputy head teacher for quite a long time and my headteacher encouraged me to become a HT, so I did my Scottish Qualification for Headship and then realised that this might be something I might really be interested in, and I think that I had learned all the skills in my previous job and I was absolutely delighted that Marr was my first headship. It was quite daunting at the time because I live in the local area and I know Marr but I would never look back with any regrets I absolutely loved my time here and hopefully in my time here I ' ve inspired a few more people to think about becoming leaders in the school and maybe one day want to become a head teacher.
What inspired you to take on a new job?
I was originally a depute and a head teacher for quite a long time so in that I built up a lot of experience. I ' ve been in schools a
