Recently our school achieved the Say It Out Loud Charter for Mental Health . To celebrate I interviewed the brains behind the whole operation - Mr Bell .
The charter took 4 years of work with our S6 Mental Health Ambassadors . It was something that we put a lot of work and effort into . Mental Health is stigmatised heavily so the Ambassadors are aiming to remove the stigma and have this extremely heavy topic and topics associated with mental health be something that everyone at Marr can talk openly about , be that with teachers , friends or parents , without the fear of being judged . This is something that , as an S4 pupil , I find incredibly important especially with the disruption of the last few years and stresses of exams and tests for everyone coming up . Well-Being Drop Ins are being introduced and they will benefit everyone at Marr hugely .
On Monday 12th September , NHS Ayrshire and Arran came and delivered a workshop to a selection of pupils within the ambassadors . This workshop also included an online training on Suicide Prevention . The workshop is aptly named - Mental Health : A Practical Approach . Another way Marr are tackling the stigma of Mental Health is by having in school counsellors which pupils are encouraged to go to if they need to . Positive Mental Health among students and staff is very important to the team and SAMH are also delivering an in-service day to staff on the subject . Surveys for our S1 students are also being distributed .
