Every year at Marr College, the new S1 ' s take part in a project to raise awareness for the ocean: Sea Story. They also bring awareness to pollution, overfishing and plastic pollution. Throughout the year, the students have a period set aside for them to complete their project.
The finals this year took place on the Wednesday 6 May, with the S1 classes having the morning to prepare. Each classes ' final project showcased a whole year ' s worth of hard work, with costumes, collages, and recycled models.
At the end we went to the pe hall and set up our Sea Story displays. When we had finished setting up the judges came around and looked at our information, pictures, and more. At the end the judges came together and picked the one they thought was the best. The winners were 1p10!
Well done to all the S1 teams, some fantastic ideas showcased.
A note from Mrs Stevenson – Lead teacher of Sea Story Alongside developing their science and social studies understanding, pupils used their learning to create powerful short films encouraging others to protect our oceans. The project also strengthened key literacy, digital and teamwork skills, with pupils collaborating to research issues, design costumes and posters, and produce stop-motion films. Pupil reflections showed real impact. One shared,“ I didn’ t really think about how bad ships are for the sea before,” while another said,“ I feel sorry for what we are doing to the ocean and the creatures that live there.” Their responses highlight growing awareness, empathy and ownership of their learning.
