Marr College Newsletter 04 | Page 2

Issue Number 04 | November 2019 Head Teacher’s Welcome Welcome to our new and improved online newsletter, which we hope gives you an insight into the wide range of success and achievements of our young people and dedicated staff at Marr College. Inside this issue: Charity Colour Walk Individual and Team Sporting Achievements Art Photography Competition Young Enterprise Student Digital Champions South Ayrshire Sports Council Awards Social Enterprise Awards Study Tips Halloween Disco Lessons from Auschwitz Remembrance Day And much more! In September we held another successful family learning event focusing on study skills and together with earlier parents’ evenings for S4-S6, will help to ensure young people are aware of their next steps in learning and are better prepared for the upcoming prelim exams. Another highlight earlier in the school year was the inaugural ‘Colour Walk’ which was not only a fun afternoon for all, but also raised over £3600 for the Crosshouse Children’s Fund. Our sincere thanks to families and friends who continue to give generously to support our fundraising activities. For a number of months, the team of senior Mental Health Ambassadors have been working hard to promote good mental wellbeing across the school through running lunchtime drop-in sessions and leading professional learning workshops for staff across the entire Marr cluster. I would encourage you to take some time to visit their page on the school website. The group are finalists in the South Ayrshire Youth Forum Awards and we are delighted that their efforts have been recognised. Since the launch of the Marr Skills Academy our groups – Marr Grows, Style & File, Spokes Cycle Maintenance and the Creation Station – have been going from strength to strength. 1 The Marr Skills Academy have also reached the finals of the SAYF Awards together with one of our S4 volunteers. As we near the deadline for University applications, staff and S6 students are putting the finishing touches to their personal statements. A number of young people have been successful in applying for January College courses and we wish each of our University and College applicants every success in this important journey. Regular updates on school activities can be found on our Twitter feed @MarrColOfficial and in the local press. We are very proud of our school and the success of all our young people and we hope you enjoy finding out about some of the opportunities, events and supports we have on offer. Best wishes to you all for Christmas and the New Year. George Docherty Head Teacher
