Duke of Edinburgh
‘ The Duke of Edinburgh expedition season began in May with Marr College sending a total of 54 pupils off into the hills . 43 pupils completed their Bronze expedition after a practice of 2 days walking and 1-night camping by the stunning Loch Doon . Their final assessed expedition took them hiking across the Carrick Way , landing in Dunure to camp by the beach . After a team building game on the beach , pupils did what everyone should do by a campfire , enjoyed s ’ mores , with added extras like caramelised pineapple and chocolate muffins baked in orange shells .
11 Silvers checked out Dunure too for their practice expedition , with more beach games and s ’ mores to enjoy . All Silvers are heading to Arran for their assessed expedition , hiking for 3 days , and camping for 2 nights . This will be a really tough challenge , however worth every moment , developing their resilience and team building skills - they will rely on each other to get through this .
To pass their expeditions , all pupils need to cook their own meals whilst hiking and camping , making sure they follow the route cards and maps , they can ’ t get lost , and that they leave no trace they were ever there . If you have time this summer , set off into the gorgeous Scottish countryside and sleep under the stars ! Remember the Scottish Outdoor Access Code though , and leave no trace ’
