Marr Hockey
Written by Mr McElnea
Marr finished the season off really well in what was a stop-start hockey season for everyone . We seem to be restriction free now and can get back to what feels like normality . Our last Saturday fixtures were against Lomond where our S1 ’ s managed to secure their first win of the season . Mya Wilson scoring a superb opener in the game to make it 1-0 .
Sadly , this year our S2 and S3 teams were a little short of competitive games due to a number of call off ’ s or cancellations . However , both teams made good progress and some of our S3 have already made the transition into 2nd XI senior teams . Heidi Logan , Connie Smith and Hayley Samson are ones to watch going into next season .
2nd XI won their final game of the season 3-0 against Lomond , and again it was great to see so many S4 girls at training and playing games this year . The development and progress the 2nd XI has made is very positive and there are plenty of players coming through to earn their 1st XI place next season . Well done to all the S4 girls … we will see you all in August .
Our 1stXI finished off the season with a superb , well-earned day at the Scottish Schools Cup Finals day in Edinburgh . Having beat Gala in the semi-final , Marr were lined up to play against Morrisons Academy . The weather was fantastic for hockey and the girls put in a superb performance . The game finished 1- 0 to Morrisons , but the girls can certainly be proud of their performance in the cup and learn from the experience .
The annual senior awards were also awarded this year with the winner of the Player of the Year Award going to Bryony Inglis . Bryony has progressed a lot in S6 and was outstanding throughout the cup games . We wish Bryony all the best in her future hockey endeavours .
The Marr Purple & Gold Award , which is awarded to the person who is the most committed , the most determined and the person who the team wouldn ’ t be same without . This was awarded to Aimee Saunders for her level of commitment over her time at Marr College . Well done Aimee , and we wish you all the best .
This year was incredibly difficult for coaches to select winners of awards . The team as a whole all year has constantly made steps
