Vocational Burst - Early Years
Sixteen S2 / 3 pupils are experiencing a 6-week Vocational Burst into the Early Years Education Sector . Our Ayrshire College lecturer , Ann-Marie , has been teaching us what it is like to work in Early Years Education industry including play and learning ; child development ; creativity & science ; promoting health & wellbeing ; children ’ s rights and responsibilities ; and safe environments & risky play . On the final session , pupils will attend an insight session at Ayrshire College ( Ayr Campus ) to experience what it ’ s like on campus and practise using a range of learning resources from the Early Years College curriculum . and skills for the outside world . This also helps our communication and our confidence by talking to teachers and providing a Barista service around the school . We have also been developing our Digital literacy by using professional marketing programs to design flyers for our upcoming Barista event ” ( S3 Learner )

“ The Barista Team meet every Tuesday afternoon and we make lots of different coffees for the teachers at Marr . Mandy our college lecturer comes in to help us and also teaches us about customer service
The Cycle Maintenance team have been learning how to carry out safety cycle checks and identify faults and perform general maintenance procedures . Our college lecturer , Stuart Muir , has recently been teaching us how to perform specialised repair and maintenance tasks .
These skills are going to prepare us well for our EYC cluster partnership project in the new year – where we will be repairing and maintaining the bikes of children at the Early Years centres within the Marr cluster . On a Wednesday we have also been developing our career management and employability skills by completing our employability units .
