So how do we not completely blow our healthy eating during summer when these are the most social months. Here are some tips to help: FOOD: • If going to someone’s house for a BBQ, then take a more nutritious option, like a delicious Haloumi and pomegranate salad (see the next issue for recipe), or a platter with healthier options like hummus, vege sticks, a soft goats cheese, seed crackers, smoked salmon, pesto, fresh fruit etc…at least that way you will have an option if there are no others and the host will love you for bringing a plate. This is more so important if you have allergies or intolerances, the best thing is to bring something that is safe for you to eat. DIVORCE, DIVORCER, DIVORCEE, DIVORCED... THEY ARE ALL DIFFICULT WORDS TO TALK ABOUT! • Summer is the perfect season for the most wonderful produce, like lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, add some walnuts and feta and you have a beautiful salad to serve with any meal. Come in and have A chat about your options. The higher the percentage the better, which means less additives and fillers. Make your own burger patty’s rather than buying them, then Silvia Hodel Clinical/Holistic nutritionist Phone: 02040762007 Email: [email protected] www.loveunutritionists.com you will know exactly what is in them! • Instead of having desert, make a sweet platter for after the meal, include fresh fruit, bliss balls, nuts and seeds, dark chocolate, dried fruit. • Fill up your plate with vegetables, have half your plate of vegetables, this way you can enjoy the delicious in season produce but also get a bunch of vitamins and minerals in the process. DRINKING: • Have sparkling water or tonic as a healthier option to soda in alcoholic spirits. • Have a wine glass of bubbly water with lemon and mint in between glasses of wine, this will mean you drink less wine (wake up feeling better) and you will stay hydrated at the same time. • Always have other options in the fridge, like cold water or Kombucha. Kombucha is so very refreshing and it tastes delicious with many different flavours now available. Banjo Brews is an Organic Kombucha made right here in Marlborough. By taking advantage of the in season produce this summer and a little planning, you can still ENJOY your summer and stay healthy too.
