Before another storm arrives, tidy vulnerable areas of the garden. Remove dead stems, broken branches and weak growth from shrubs and perennials to reduce the risk of snapping in strong wind and rain. Weeding is also easier when the ground is damp, but weeds should be removed completely, as they can quickly re-root in wet conditions.

Check beds for exposed roots caused by soil erosion. Heavy rain often washes soil away from trees, shrubs and perennials, leaving roots vulnerable. Re-cover exposed areas with compost or mulch to improve drainage and protect roots. Applying an organic fertiliser such as Atlantic Bio Ganic All Purpose Fertiliser can also help strengthen plants before prolonged wet weather sets in.
