“ I am no longer the cheesemaker, but my staff knows what I ask for and what should be done. They stick to that recipe to the tee,” Leigh explains.
From construction to cheese
After completing his studies at Weston Agricultural College, Leigh went on a life journey that took him to the construction industry in the United Kingdom for seven years. On returning, he assisted his sister with their food distribution business based in Johannesburg and Durban. He later joined a cheesemanufacturing company in George, where he handled sales with key retail customers in Johannesburg and Pretoria. He then bought shares in a dairy-processing factory in Mooi River, where he worked for 12 years until he decided to start taking life a bit slower and sold those shares. It was not long after moving to his farm that he was asked to set up Mooi River Cheese.
