A recipe that works
Outside, Kevin points to a yellowish-coloured bull grazing nearby. It is a cross between a Brahman and a Beefmaster.
“ We have used that bull this year as it is still young, but he shows a lot of potential. Brahman heifer calves can weigh up to 30 kg and fetch between R50 / kg and R60 / kg in the trade, which is much better than auction prices. Bulls earn us less, and for a bull we might get only R40 / kg. So those little heifers are a real pot of gold.”
