AROUND THE HOUSE
Choose a fi replace to suit your needs
Like people, fireplaces differ. It makes a difference whether you
want to use your fireplace as a heat source for warming up, to entertain
guests or to have a braai. Even gas or fan heaters could offer a solution
for your needs. What matters is where and how you place these in and
around your home.
Fireplaces
An evening spent with a chilly breeze outside, curry on the stove
while sitting around the warmth of a fireplace is probably one of the
most satisfying times you could imagine. The ambiance around a
fireplace creates a cosy and comfortable mood while warming up a
home in just a few hours. Depending on the size of the area, this can be
described as a necessity for a family home.
1. Freestanding fi replace
A couple of years ago these were the only options available to
homeowners who wanted to install a fireplace. Many of us grew up
huddling close to one of these old-fashioned inventions on a cold
evening with the smell of wood burning in the metal cavity. There’s
very little that compares to sitting around a fire with open flames!
Tips:

If you decide to install one of these freestanding metal fire-
places, ensure you position it in the right place according to
the design of your home. Areas with an open plan design will
benefit from a fireplace like this, but if the area is too large,
it may not warm up. If the house has separate r ooms with
doors that can be closed to separate it from the area with the
fireplace, it doesn’t really matter which fireplace you install
because you can prevent the heat from dissipating to other
areas.
When choosing an open-flame fireplace, please remember
that safety comes first. Make sure you have a fire screen to
prevent any sparks or coals from shooting out and landing on
the floor or causing any damage.
These fireplaces usually warm up a room with an ambient
temperature which means you will never feel too hot!
