Mohair Excellence Awards
Mohair South Africa also introduced the new Mohair Excellence Awards to recognise excellence in super summer kid mohair. Ten finalists were selected, with a prize pool of R110 000 sponsored by SAWAMBA. The winners were also announced at a formal event in Graaff-Reinet.
A fibre with a future
The core message of the conference was clear: South African mohair is small in volume, but great in influence. It comes from a tough landscape, through skilled hands and with a story the world increasingly wants to hear.
Hobson summed up the role of producers in this story as follows:“ You preserve heritage, sustain rural communities and produce a fibre admired across the world.” That is why South African mohair is not just another fibre. Karoo soil, craftsmanship, origin, accountability and human endeavour are all spun together in one figurative thread.
