China remains the biggest buyer of South African mohair. In 2025, this market accounted for 53 % of South Africa’ s exports of combed mohair fibre, known in the industry as mohair tops. Italy was second with 26 %, followed by Taiwan, the United Kingdom and Bulgaria.
