An indoor cat is sometimes more traumatised by a move than an outdoor cat because it is not used to changing environments . Such a cat should be slowly and gradually introduced to one room at a time .
WHEN CAN YOU LET THE CAT OUT AGAIN ?
As a rule , keep the cat indoors for at least two weeks to get used to the new house . If you have a confident cat that gets frustrated with confinement , you might consider letting it out a few days earlier . Nervous , skittish cats should stay indoors longer until they are fully
familiar with their surroundings .
A few days before letting your cat out , scatter the used contents of its litter box around the boundaries of your property . This will make the garden smell familiar and will also inform other cats in the area of a new cat ’ s presence .
Before letting the cat out , ensure it can be identified . A collar with your name , address , and phone number is useful . A microchip implanted by a vet is ideal . If your cat already has a microchip , remember to inform the microchip company of your new address .
