Leading by example is one mall ' s tactic to get shoppers moving .
It ' s always tough to pick a New Year ' s resolution , let alone commit to it openly . Maybe that ' s why The Centre Livingston ( UK ) got its own staff to go first , vowing to improve its fitness in 2022 and kick-start a simple exercise regime with the " Clock Your Steps Challenge ." There was no need to sign up for a gym membership to join the challenge . As the mall managers pointed out , the property has more than 150 shops and eateries that span one million square feet and cover a radius of two miles . That ' s enough for the on-site security , cleaning , and management teams to cover approximately 1,000 miles on foot every month , just walking around during their workdays . Last month , however , they looked to increase that number to 1,600 miles with shoppers ' help . Their target : Clocking 25,000 miles property-wide by the end of the year . Shoppers joined the mall-walking ranks by clocking their own steps while shopping , using their mobile phones or pedometers , and then registering the mileage at The Centre Livingston ' s customer service desk .
As is often the case with New Year ' s resolutions , the mere prospect of the satisfaction that comes with a job well done isn ' t always enough to spark enthusiasm . So , the mall threw in a little incentive :, namely a chance to win a £ 50 ( US $ 67 ) gift card .
A BOOK OF POEMS FOR THE QUEEN
Edmonton Green is calling on local young writers to use their creativity to mark The Queen ' s Platinum Jubilee .
High Tea will no doubt see a spike in popularity at retail centers across the UK as the country celebrates The Queen ' s Platinum Jubilee . Edmonton Green in Enfield is opting for a more creative program . Until February 27 , it ' s inviting local children ( ages five through 16 ) to write poems that celebrate Her Majesty and all things Royal . A juding panel will then select the top entries to feature in a book that the center will publish and send to the Queen as a gift .
Entries are via email or on-site at Edmonton Green ' s management office , and the winners will be unveiled on World Book Day ( March 3 ). The budding poets will also get a copy of the compilation on which the public will be able to get their hands as well through Amazon , with sales proceeds to benefit Time to Help UK , a London charity working in the areas of poverty and disaster relief .
THE TRENDZ TWIST :
The Queen reaching her Platinum Jubilee is a true milestone , but celebrations likely won ' t be as expected given the COVID-19 pandemic . If your center team wants to mark the occasion and involve its kids club members , an idea would be to solicit written dedications , photographs , and videos for a digital time capsule to be shared on your website and social media pages .
