You need to build and establish an identity for your efforts. Think about competitors like Nike or Wal-Mart. They are well known, understood, and accepted among consumers and competitors. Along with building your identity you will want to build relationships with other providers and most important consumers. This will create lasting impact and ensure your message is consistently received.

7. awareness

Your team can’t be small or close-minded when it comes to social media. You need to stay on top of the changing trends, environment and market. You must have situational and market awareness at all times in order to optimize the effectiveness of your social media. Have an idea of what your competitors are doing and how the rest of the market is reacting to their positioning.

8. adaptability

Adaptability: Since you will always maintain awareness it is very probable that you will notice changes some where in the market quite often. A key to social media is to agile and adaptive. Your team will need to adapt to any boomer rang effects or changes in the market. Speed matters in social media and you need to adapt quickly to address the changes and remain competitive.

9. complexity

This is something you are going to want to avoid. The goal of your social media should be to remain simple, short, and to the point. There is no need to cloud up the message or add any unnecessary noise. The easier it is for the audience to understand and relate the more likely the message will stick and execute its purpose.

10. do your homework

No we don’t mean your actual home work unless you are still in school. What we mean by this is to do your research. Research is a critical component to planning your social media approach. You will need to do extensive research to understand the role social media will play, how it will be utilized, and most important identify and establish a target audience.
