ALANA LORENS (Cont.)
CONVICTION OF THE HEART
BLURB EXCERPT
Family law attorney Suzanne Taylor understands her
clients‘ problems—her own husband left her with two
babies to raise alone. Now that they‘re teenagers, her life
is full. The last thing she wants is the romantic attentions
of a police lieutenant, no matter how good-looking.
Lt. Nick Sansone is juggling the demands of a new
promotion and doesn‘t need complications either. But
when he sends a councilman‘s battered wife to Suzanne
for help, he realizes he wants to connect with the lovely,
prickly lawyer on more than a professional level.
They are soon confronted with a different battle
when the abused woman‘s husband threatens retribution.
The powerful, well-connected councilman can damage
both their careers—not to mention hurt those they love.
Can they bend enough to admit they need each other in a
time of crisis? Or will a husband‘s revenge take them
down before they ever get a chance? ―Next?‖ She sat up straight. ―It‘s probably eleven
o‘clock. Isn‘t it past your bedtime?‖
―Saturday tomorrow. No work for me.‖ A calculating
curl of his lips.
What to do? Her house was empty. Hope and Riviera
were staying with their grandparents, since it wasn‘t a
school night. She‘d wanted options, and no reason to
have to hurry home.
―What did you have in mind, Lieutenant?‖ There.
Toss the ball into his court.
He stood up, offered her a hand. She took it, and he
raised her to her feet.
―First, this.‖ He slipped an arm around her waist,
pulling her close to kiss her. She closed her eyes, released
the objections that automatically came to her mind and let
herself go. He‘d worn that aftershave she‘d noticed in the
courthouse elevator, and as he pressed her against his
chest, the scent filled her nose and made her knees weak.
Their lips met, parted, met again, softly tasting each other,
teasing, too.
He let her go slowly. She opened her eyes, finding his
so close, so overcome with emotion. Hers, she knew,
must have looked the same.
―Good beginning,‖ she whispered.
He didn‘t move. ―I know where we can finish that
thought.‖
Her breath caught. Did
she dare?
***** Amazon Review by Diane Scott Lewis:
―Alana Lorens writes a compelling story that keeps the
pages turning. Her characters are well-rounded, sympa-
thetic, and believable. I highly recommend this first in the
series.‖
