Mario's Energy Adventure 2014 | Page 3

Thermal Mario enters the Koopa King’s Castle He discovers the lava field Mario-“The Heat will be a hassle” Mario-“I need to pass it to make the Koopa King yield” “The heat can reach me in three different ways” “I can evade heat by conduction if I don’t touch” “but convection might cause a delay” “by making the air high up hot, but not much” “Light is radiation and might make me a little hot” “But those two won’t matter, I just need to keep jumping across to the next spot” Conduction is the spread of heat by collision or touching. Spreads heat evenly, but is slow. Convection is the movement of fluid because of a heat difference. Hot materials move above cold materials. Kinetic energy is gained, but some heat is lost. Radiation is the movement of heat through empty space; is in the form of electromagnetic waves. Isn’t a complete transfer of energy and can be dangerous, but it allows heat to be transfered without a medium.
