PROJECT OVERVIEW
As for the major part of penitentiaries in Italy, the Opera jail, Milan, is strongly overpopulated, and the upcoming realization of a new extension has been taken as an occasion to involve some of the guests of the penitentiary, in order to develop a design focused on the user, aimed at solving very practical urgencies, while also dealing with restrictions such as cost effectiveness and security issues.

The proposed solution follows the volume arrangement of the existing pavillons, re-connecting them and enclosing easy-tocontrol outdoor spaces which can finally become accessible from recreational and socializing indoor rooms. Green spaces and indoor / outdoor sport facilities( including a pool) are directly connected to the detention areas, in order to actively support the psychological well-being of the convicts, considered as a critical matter for its re-introduction in society.
