“ NovelSat Xprime identifies user requests for content locally available at the venue and streams the content via the local 5G base station to the relevant user devices . This allows for new content - such as footage of a touchdown from a dozen different cameras - to be ingested into the 5G network - either public or private - in near real-time . Running locally , NovelSat Xprime performs video transcoding , packaging , caching , and delivery , closer to users ’ devices , enabling to create the experience immediately for on-site fans ,” he advises .
POP-UP . Rohde & Schwarz ’ s Janner notes that delivery can utilise the high power , high tower transmission networks used by broadcasters , but it is also ideal for pop-up services where large numbers of users will be expected to access the same content .
“ At major sporting events , the stadium experience could be enhanced with replays and statistics , bringing the home television audience an immersive coverage of the live game . Organisers of music festivals could use 5G Broadcast to fill the intervals between bands with interviews , backstage insights and celebrity comments , to maintain energy and enthusiasm between sets . 5G Broadcast could be used for other multicast data aside from media , such as downloading data to Internet of Things devices or automotive applications .”
5G UHD-HDR broadcast success for UHD Spain
UHD Spain , a trade association
dedicated to advancing
the future of broadcasting
technologies , has achieved
a milestone in 5G UHD-
HDR quality broadcasting
in partnership with TVU
Networks , a cloud-based
workflow solutions for live
content production and
distribution , and Radio 3
( RTVE ). The collaboration
demonstrated the potential of
easily integrating professional
REMI production into any
media workflow with the
portable TVU RPS One for
field contribution and TVU
Producer for cloud-based
production .
During a live concert by
the singer Israel Fernández
at the Real Observatorio
Astronómico de Madrid ,
UHD-Spain deployed nextgeneration
audio ( NGA ), 5G
driven contribution , cloud
production mixing , 5G
Broadcast , and commodity
internet for transmission to
deliver exceptional video
and audio during the live
broadcast .
Emili Planas , CTO at
Group MediaPro as well
as a member of UHD
Spain ’ s board of directors
highlighted the significance
of this collaboration ,
stating : “ This collaboration
demonstrates another
avenue for live production .
Very soon , the production
model we have tested will
become the standard for
covering live events with the
highest UHD-HDR quality ,
leveraging the capabilities of 5G , and delocalised operations through connected resources .”
The UHD-Spain trial introduced several key elements that reshaped UHD- HDR broadcasting . At the heart of the trial was the TVU RPS One , an ultra-portable , battery-powered REMI solution designed to support synchronised multi-camera feeds with 5G connectivity . This included a 5G-powered UHD-HDR workflow with 3 TVU RPS One transmitters that delivered HDR-HLG content via 5G , utilising cloud-based processing , and leveraging multiple signal transport methods , such as DTT ( DVB-T2 ), satellite ( DVB-S2 ), and the internet ( OTT , HbbTV ) simultaneously , providing viewers access on various platforms like TV , PCs , tablets and mobile devices .
UHD Spain also showcased the potential of cloudbased remote production by integrating mixing and production processing in the cloud using TVU Producer , setting a new standard for UHD-HDR broadcasting .
Miguel Cristóbal , CEO of SAPEC and also coordinator and one of the board directors of UHD-Spain , commented on the trial ’ s success , stating , “ The experience of seeing how a 5G network can be used to contribute UHD-HDR signals with enriched audio , upload them to the cloud for remote production , and process them for distribution via 5G Broadcast has been truly
remarkable and enlightening . This process has allowed us to gain invaluable insights into the potential of using these technologies together to successfully reach viewers in a new more effective way .”
Rafael Castillo , VP of EMEA and LATAM at TVU Networks , added , “ The trust placed in TVU ’ s innovative solutions by esteemed partners like MediaPro and UHD-Spain underscores our unwavering commitment to pioneering advanced broadcast technologies . TVU RPS One and TVU Producer are a part of the TVU Ecosystem designed to seamlessly integrate into any broadcast production workflow , facilitating innovative approaches and challenging the conventional boundaries of the industry .”
“ With more than 600 million 5G subscriptions added globally this year , and rising in every region , it is evident that the demand for high performance connectivity is strong ,” says Fredrik Jejdling , executive vice president and head of networks , Ericsson . “ The rollout out of 5G continues and we see an increasing number of 5G standalone networks being deployed , bringing opportunities to support new and more demanding applications for both consumers and enterprises .” The global average data consumption per smartphone keeps growing . Total mobile data traffic is estimated to grow threefold between the end of 2023 and end of 2029 – attributed to factors
such as improved device capabilities , an increase in data intensive content and continued improvements in the performance of deployed networks .
“ The rate of data growth in mobile networks clearly reflects consumers ’ passion for enhanced mobile broadband-related applications ,” advises Peter Jonsson , executive editor , Ericsson Mobility Report , Ericsson . “ This trend will increase in pace as more consumers worldwide embrace 5G and new use cases emerge , triggering further growth in data traffic . As most traffic is generated indoors , where people typically spend most of their time , there is a growing need to extend 5G midband coverage both indoors and outdoors to ensure a comprehensive 5G experience in all locations .“
5G mid-band combines high capacity with good coverage , making it an ideal choice for delivering the full 5G experience . Global 5G mid-band population coverage is currently more than 40 %, an increase from 30 % cent in 2022 . The increase is mainly driven by large mid-band deployments in India , but also several midband deployments in Europe .
The report also explores wireless connectivity for the manufacturing industry , how 5G is becoming a key determinant of production output and how it enables the agility required to support rapid changes and reallocation of resources .
