Beverly also spent many years
caring for her aging parents and
was a very loyal caregiver.
Beverly has a sister, Charlotte Jeffers, of Colebrook, and
many nieces, nephews, greatnieces, and great-nephews. She
is predeceased by her loving husband of 25 years, William Hylwa,
of Lancaster, and seven siblings:
brothers Linwood, Leonard, and
James Jordan, and sisters Madalyn Pilbro, Leona Gadwah, Ida
Martel, and Mamie Jordan.
Beverly thrived spending time
with and talking about her family and friends. Her later years
were filled with many loyal
friends she loved very much. Her
friends were an important part
of her life at The McKee Inn, and
she reveled in telling stories of
adventures had.
A very special “thank you” is
extended to her devoted friends
Jeff and Jane Gilman. She will
be missed by many, including her
loyal friends Lorraine Kenner
and David Newton. The family
also says “thank you” to the
wonderful staff at The Morrison,
as well as her fun roommate
Eleanor who made all the difference in the last few months.
Lastly, a thanks to Dr. Ford at
Weeks Medical in Whitefield.
Bev’s family will receive
friends on Saturday, March 26,
2016, at the Jenkins and Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook,
from 10 to 11 a.m., with a memorial service to immediately follow
at the funeral home. A graveside
committal service will be held
later in the spring at the Colebrook Village Cemetery of which
notice will be giv en.

CLARENCE I. SMITH
GILMAN–Clarence I. “Bum”
Smith, 86, of Cedar Street, died
peacefully at his home Saturday
morning March 12, 2016. He was
surrounded by his family.
Smith was born in Concord,
Vt., on Dec. 23, 1929 the son of
Bernie and Dorothy (Joslin)
Smith.
“Bum” moved to Gilman in
1944 and graduated from St.
Johnsbury Trade School in 1950.
During the Korean War he
served with in US Army in Ger-
many with the Army of Occupation. He was an employee of the
Gilman Mill for 40 years working
for Gilman Paper, Georgia
Pacific and Simpson Paper Company. He retired in 1990.
His memberships included
the American Legion Post #41 in
Gilman and the Moose River
Masonic Lodge #82 in Concord.
“Bum” enjoyed snowmobiling,
four-wheeling, hunting, playing
cribbage and making maple
syrup. His greatest enjoyment
was spending time with his family. In his younger years he
impassioned his children with
his love of skiing.
He was a beloved husband
and father survived by his wife
Evelyn (Thayer) Smith of Gilman; a son Dennis W. Smith of
Burlington; two daughters Joyce
M. Presby of Bethlehem, Nancy
L. O’Brien of Quechee, Vt.; a
brother Norman “Bud” Smith of
Lunenburg; nine grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren. He
was predeceased by a brother
Gordon Smith and sister Thelma
Stevens.
At Smith’s request there are
no visiting hours. A graveside
service with military honors will
be held in the spring at Riverside
Cemetery, S. Lunenburg. There
will be an announcement at a
later date. Donations in lieu of
flowers may be made in his memory to the Gilman Senior Center,
67 Riverside Avenue, Gilman,
VT 05906.
