Neighborhood Watch program to launch in response to crime uptick

Home and car burglaries as well as other suspicious crimes have spiked dramatically this past year . In response to an alarming increase in petty crimes occurring in Charbonneau , the Emergency Preparedness and Safety Committee is going to introduce a Neighborhood Watch program and establish it throughout Charbonneau .
Charbonneau ’ s Neighborhood Watch program will be part of the National Neighborhood Watch program that has its roots in 1972 and is widely known for being very successful . With help from the Clackamas County Sheriff ’ s Office , which will help with training and literature , it is a goal to have every street and road in Charbonneau included as part of this program . A good source of information about the national program can be found on www . nnw . org .
On behalf of this committee , I will be the lead person for setting the program in motion , working closely with the 13 homeowners association presidents and EPPS Neighborhood Captains to find and appoint Neighborhood Watch Leaders on every street . Each resident in Charbonneau is the eyes and ears needed to make this program successful . The leaders are those you report matters of concern to , and who will have received the training necessary to then contact the various law enforcement agencies , those being Charbonneau First Response , Clackamas County Sheriff and Wilsonville Police .
If you would like to volunteer as a Neighborhood Watch Leader please contact your HOA president or one of your EPPS captains who would greatly appreciate your help . The first organizational meeting will be in the CCC dining room 4 p . m . March 15 . At the event , EPPS committee members will be present to answer questions concerning the neighborhood watch program and is open to all interested parties . The following meeting will be held 4 p . m . April 20 in the Pavilion for all Neighborhood Watch Leaders and will feature Sarah McClurg from the Clackamas County Sheriff ’ s Office who will explain and introduce the program as a part of the city of Wilsonville and Clackamas County .

Charbonneau Tennis Club

By KATHI GRAY

It ’ s time for tennis

Spring is about to bloom and so is tennis ! Soon the outdoor courts will be filled with players breathing fresh , sunny air !
GRAY One would think that residents join the tennis club after they move here . But , for Rob and Suzanne Hatton , the draw of tennis was first ! Looking for a tennis club close to home in Wilsonville , they discovered Charbonneau Tennis Club in 2003 . Suzanne ’ s father was living here at the time , so it was a natural progression . They then decided it looked like a great place to live , and became residents in 2005 . Hurrying to find a place in the then
“ hot ” market , they received a tip from a neighbor . Hmmmm , sounds like now ? They joined the mixed doubles night and immersed themselves in all things tennis ! It was a family affair for them with daughter Stephanie playing varsity tennis at Wilsonville High School . Now married to her husband , Adam , they began anew with sons , Caden , 12 , and Kyle , 8 . Tennis is enjoyed by the whole family and Adam and Stephanie Cunningham are now members of the club . The boys joined Donna ’ s Summer Kids Camp this past summer . Truly a tennis family ! Rob and Suzanne play tennis year-round , as they wintered in California for 20 years . However , to spend more time with the grandkids they have now , they sold the winter home to enjoy tennis with them here at home all year . Tennis is very important to them and , as Suzanne says , “ Tennis is just so much fun ”
