Spring , my favorite time of year . In spring , as the days get longer , the leaves start opening up on the trees and the flowers start to bloom . Everything seems clean and new . I am also hopeful this year that we will be in a new stage of this pandemic where we can again be together and enjoy our luncheons and friendships .
We were disappointed in
February as omicron made it difficult to be together . The CWA board delivered a Valentine surprise to members to make sure they were fondly being thought of . We hope the members enjoyed the chocolate . Thank you to the board for preparing the surprises and delivering to each member .
We are anticipating and planning our March meeting to be held at 11:30 a . m . Monday , March 14 . Our speaker is the curator for the Oregon Fire Service Museum , Shirley Tormy . Shirley is the daughter of Charbonneau residents , Bill and Martha Bennett . She has been actively involved in the design and construction of the new 6,800 square-foot museum inside Powerland Heritage Park just west of I-5 at the Brooks / Gervais exit . She was a co-writer for the grant and actively worked to raise funds for the construction of the building and exhibits . She serves as spokesperson for the organization and enjoys bringing history to life through a costumed monologue on the Portland ’ s Riverfront Fire of 1872 .
The Oregon Fire Service Museum , Memorial & Learning Center ( OFSM ) is an all-volunteer nongovernmental 501 ( c ) 3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing with the public the structural and wildland fire service heritage with a focus on Oregon , raising public awareness of fire prevention and safety and honoring the fire service community . By preserving , restoring , displaying , and interpreting fire service artifacts , the statewide fire museum will tell the story of evolving fire prevention and suppression technology .
We hope you will join us as we learn about this amazing story and the museum . The luncheon cost is $ 30 . Sign up in the Charbonneau Country Club coat room prior to noon on March 11 .
Members and friends of CWA will again enjoy walking on the third Monday of each month starting in March . Join us 1 p . m . March 21 outside of Curry ’ s Restaurant in the Village .
Would you like to meet new friends and be involved with our
