AMTEC
Everett
Everett Community College’s Advanced Manufacturing Training & Education
Center (AMTEC) teaches engineering technology, welding, composites, precision
machining, mechatronics and other high-demand skills with a mix of hands-on
training and a 54,000-square-foot modern learning environment. The program
appeals to students who are already in the working world; the average age of the
740 annual AMTEC students is about 28 to 30
years old.
AMTEC students work on setting a face
mill machine (above) while tenured faculty
instructor Mike Patching (below) explains how
his composites class is a form of “industrial
arts and crafts.” A local city council member
uses a virtual reality welding machine (bottom)
while a student practices the real thing (lower
left). AWB President Kris Johnson and Vice
President, Government Affairs, Gary Chandler
chat with U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-WA (far left).
