PART 2 • Analyzing your games with houdini
Going back to the “Infinite” section of the left-hand panel,
you'll see a box beside “Number of variations” which allows
you to set a value from 1 to 3. This controls the number of
variations which will be displayed in the Engine panel while
Houdini is analyzing a position. Houdini will not only show
the best idea for the moving side in the current position, but
will also show the second- and third-best moves, along with
a numeric evaluation for each. This is useful for seeing how
the move that was actually played (or your own idea, if you're
using “Demo mode” and trying to guess the next move)
measures up to the move which Houdini preferred:
• Note, though, that when you click the button to copy the analysis
into the gamescore, only the top variation is inserted; the other two
variations aren't copied to the game.
