PART 2 • Analyzing your games with houdini
The third (“variation”) button will insert Houdini's analysis into
the gamescore so that you can play through the variation
which is displayed in the engine panel. Click that button to
pop Houdini's analysis into the game; then you can click on
the variation to replay its moves and see what Houdini thinks
is the best course of action for both players:
• You can see in the above illustration that when you insert the variation
into the game, you also get Houdini's numerical evaluation of the final
position of the variation, plus the amount of time it took Houdini to
arrive at its conclusion. (If you highlight the last move of the variation,
hit CTRL-A, and then click the “Evaluation” tab in the Analysis dialogue
[as described in Chapter 12], you see that the setting of the slider
matches Houdini's numerical evaluation. Moving the slider changes the
evaluation, but that defeats the purpose of having Houdini's analysis in
the first place.)
