Dear Reader,
Thank you for reading this book. It is not only an exhaustive user manual
for Chess King, but also an entertaining account about computer chess
from its birth to the current state of affairs in the 21st century. We hope
you will like it and that it will inspire you to play more chess and use our
modern tools to become a better chess player.

us all. Grandmaster Alexandra Kosteniuk, the 12th women’s world chess

About the Author
Steve Lopez is a human Swiss Army knife. He´s been a professional voice
actor/radio/announcer/narrator, standup comedian, singer/musician, writer/editor, and Civil War historian. Among his many current hats are writer/video producer/narrator and software “support guru” for Chess King
software, and a writer/designer for Great Scott Games. He´s written, produced, and narrated several video documentaries for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, as well as researched and written guides
to Maryland’s Civil War battlefields. Steve is one of the most prolific chess
writers in history; his credits include over a thousand articles on chess
software, chess history/personalities, and game analysis, plus several
chess books in electronic format (including the best-selling CD Guide to
Computer Chess). In recent years Steve has branched out into video production, with more than four hundred Internet videos on chess software
and chess game replays/analysis already to his credit, as well as numerous commercial chess DVD products for Chess King (and more are in the
works). Occasionally, Steve even finds time to sleep.
