PART 2 • Databases Chess King will also let you create and import databases. You'll find buttons for those purposes to the right of the “Find games” dialogue in the Games view: • If you click the “New” button, Chess King presents a dialogue when lets you enter the name of your new database. Type the name, click “OK”, and the database is created and added to the list of databases in the left-hand panel of the “Games” screen. The database is created in PGN (Portable Game Notation) file format. Clicking the “Import” button gives you a dialogue which will let you import a database from elsewhere on your hard drive: • Click the box to the far right of the “Import from” box to reveal a dialogue that lets you navigate to ant folder on your hard drive and import a database from that folder. The “Alias” box lets you type a new name for the database as it will appear in the left-hand “Games” pane. Chess King supports databases in .PGN, .CDP (Chess Assistant), and .CBH (ChessBase) formats; these are the three most popular file formats for chess databases. • Be careful when using the “Delete source database” box. Checking it will delete the original database from elsewhere on your hard drive (to help prevent database duplication); be sure you really want to delete the original database before checking the box. 292 chessking.com
