PART 2 • Databases
The “Games” view in Chess King isn't the only place where
you can perform a search; you can also launch a search
request while playing through a game in Analysis mode too!
While replaying a game, click the yellow “Menu” button and
select “Search”. The submenu will give you three additional
search types:
• If you choose “White player” or “Black player”, Chess King will search
the GigaKing database for games played by either the White or Black
player of the game you're currently viewing.
• The “Current position” search command is an awesome tool for
researching openings. Clicking this option will have Chess King search
the GigaKing database for all games in which the current board
position was played regardless of the move order prior to that position!
The software catches all move transpositions and may show you a
different way to reach the current board position. It's also a handy
tool when learning about the chess openings. Most chess sources on
the opening don't provide complete games; they stop after a certain
number of moves and provide just an evaluation of the position. But
with Chess King you can manually enter the moves (or input them using
the chess tree, as we'll learn in a later chapter), then search for the
board position in question to learn more about the middlegames and
endgames which arise from that opening variation!
