PART 2 • Entering your games manually and adding analysis
1
Clicking this command will allow you to enter moves for both sides on
the chessboard without a response from Houdini. You just enter the
moves like you're playing a game against the computer, except that
you'll be entering moves for both players. After you've entered all of the
moves, you can go to the “Analysis” button on the ribbon and select
“Edit Game Header” from the panel:
2
In this dialogue you'll enter all of the game data. You'll enter the names
of the players of both the White and Black pieces (and standard
usage here is to enter the player's last name, a space, and then the
player's first name or first initial). You can enter the date (with the
standard usage for this field being to enter the month, date, and year
in the form mm/dd/yyyy). For the “Result”, enter “1-0” if White won,
“0-1” if Black won, and “1/2-1/2” if the game was a draw. It's also
customary to provide the place the game was played (in other words,
the name of the town) under “Site”. The other information (like “Elo” if
both players are rated and you know their ratings, or “ECO” if you know
the Encyclopedia of Chess Openings code for the opening used in
the game) is optional. Clicking the “Show Additional Fields” button will
allow you to make “custom” header information, but be aware that this
will result in a non-standard PGN (Portable Game Notation) header, and
other chess programs may have trouble loading the game if you share
the game or database with your friends.
• After you've entered the moves and filled out the game header, click
the yellow Menu button and then click “Save Game”. The game will be
saved to your database.
