Manual de Chess King 2015 | Seite 159

PART 2 • Learn the “universal language” of chess • Either of the White Knights can move to e6 (and fork the Black King and Queen!). If one of the Knights makes that move it would be confusing to just write “Ne6”, since no one replaying the game would know which Knight went to that square. If the Knight on g5 made the move, it would be recorded as “Nge6”, while if the other Knight jumped to e6 it would be written as “Nde6” -- in either case, the starting file of the Knight is provided for clarification. • A similar case can happen with Rooks on the same file: • Either Black Rook can move to c3. If the Rook on c7 makes the move, it would be written as “R7c3”, while if the Rook on c1 made the move, we would record it as “R1c3”. In this case the starting rank is included to make the actual move more clear. 159 chessking.com
