ENDGAME TABLEBASES
(CHESS KING PRO – GOLD ONLY)
If you own the Pro version Chess King Gold, you also have
Houdini 4 Pro, the strongest commercially available chess
playing and analysis engine as of this writing. If you also have
the Nalimov Endgame Tablebases (available separately as a
purchased product or as a free download), you can connect
Houdini 4 Pro to these endgame databases, ensuring that
your chess engine will play these endgames perfectly.
The Nalimov tablebases do not come with Chess King.
Several commercial versions are available (such as the Gold
Nalimov Tablebases package from ChessOK). If you have a
fast Internet connection, you can download the files for free
from a number of websites (a Google search should turn up
several). The tablebases should be installed or downloaded
into the same folder on your hard drive, and you should be
sure to have all of the smaller endgames or else the larger
endgame won't work properly (for example, if you want to use
the four-piece endgame tablebases, you must also have the
three-piece tablebases installed or downloaded; likewise, all
of the three- and four-piece files must be present for the fivepiece endgame tablebases to work properly).
You'll need to “point” Houdini 4 Pro to the folder in which
you've stored your tablebase files, and I'll show you how.
