MANSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL ’ S JROTC TAKES FIRST PLACE IN NATIONAL COMPETITION
Mansfield High School ’ s JROTC program took first place in their division at the 2023 National High School Drill Team Championships . It ’ s the Storming Tigers ’ second national title in four years .
The competition took place the first weekend in May in Daytona Beach , Florida and included cadets from Army , Navy , Air Force and Marine JROTC programs across the country .
Teams faced off with one another in various drill and command categories . The Storming Tigers Drill Team took first place out of 13 teams in inspection , regulation and received the first-place commander trophy .
Mansfield High School Army Instructor , Sgt . 1st Class Daniel Kinnel said this is his first team to return to the armed division since COVID .

“ We train very hard , and I am so proud of the hard work and late nights they put in ,” said Kinnel . “ All JROTC programs now know where Mansfield , Texas is located and there is a lot of respect for Mansfield High School JROTC Drill Team .”
Mansfield High School ’ s all-female color guard team took fourth place out of 42 schools in the Open Color Guard division . Kinnel said both his teams are young and he expects to return strong to next year ’ s competition .
TWO MISD BOARD MEMBERS SWORN IN
Two Mansfield ISD trustees were sworn in to their positions after they won the seats in the May 6 election .
The Place 6 seat is now occupied by Dr . Benita Reed . Courtney Lackey Wilson remains in the Place 7 seat .
Each new member was sworn in at the regular school board meeting on Tuesday , May 23 .
Before the meeting , a farewell reception was held for the outgoing board member Warren Davis .
