J. L. BOREN’ S‘ P. E. WITH YOUR HERO DAY’ CELEBRATES LEADERSHIP AND FAMILY BONDING

Neeley Trotter, a physical education teacher at J. L. Boren Elementary School, has been running her“ P. E. With Your Hero Day” program for quite some time.

As part of the program, Trotter selects one student from each of her classes to be the“ P. E. Hero” for six weeks. To be chosen, students are encouraged to demonstrate hard work and leadership in class. Those selected typically show initiative, can always be counted on, work hard, and exhibit enthusiasm in their physical education classes.
At the end of each semester, students chosen as P. E. Heroes are invited to bring their personal hero— often a parent or family member— to participate in a P. E. class. These guests join in on the activities alongside their student and peers.
When parents or other role models take part in the class, they not only support their child’ s physical health but also help strengthen family bonds through shared experiences.
This type of involvement plays a vital role in a student’ s development, often leading to increased motivation and enthusiasm for physical activity. Seeing their parents value and engage in healthy pursuits can have a lasting impact.
“ My Gym Class Hero program is about celebrating the people who inspire us and recognizing the power of leadership and movement,” Trotter said.“ It serves as a reminder that the lessons learned in P. E.— teamwork, perseverance, and confidence— extend far beyond the gym. Gym Class Hero Day is, without a doubt, one of my favorite days as an educator, as I get to witness special moments with my students and their loved ones. I am grateful for the opportunity to share in these experiences within our Boren community.”

The award represents the dedication and hard work of educators, administrators, students and community partners.
“ We are so proud of the hard work our students are putting in to earn their industry-based certifications,” Superintendent Dr. Kimberley Cantu said.“ Our CTE administrators and educators are enthusiastically leading the way by providing programs and instruction that align with industry needs while preparing our students to be college, career, and life ready when they graduate.”
